Professional: Damian joined the firm in 1987 as a student. He trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant and became a partner in 1998. He is responsible for a portfolio of approximately 250 clients with turnovers ranging from £100k to £100m.
Damian is skilled in raising finance for SMEs including the preparation of business plans. In 2006, he received the recognition of his peers within the North West Society of Chartered Accountants as the ‘Business Advisor of the Year’ at their annual awards ceremony.
Damian heads up Moore and Smalley’s international offering via the Baker Tilly network.
Personal: In his spare time Damian enjoys playing golf, he is an active supporter of Manchester United. He also enjoys skiing and often ventures to France to test out the slopes. At weekends, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children.
Professional: Joe joined Moore and Smalley in 2005 after graduating from the University of York, with a degree in Economics.
Joe manages a diverse portfolio of clients encompassing many industries and a spectrum of sizes up to groups reporting well in excess of £100m turnover per annum. He works with clients in person to deliver on both their compliance and advisory requirements and has specific experience in assisting in the provision of financial support within growing companies. Joe is also heavily involved with the development of students and Moore and Smalley’s internal Innovations team.
He was awarded the Associate Chartered Accountants (ACA) qualification in 2008. Joe is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
Personal:Outside of work Joe is a keen footballer, playing both 11 and 5 a side. He supports Middlesbrough FC and attempts to go to matches whenever he can. Joe enjoys the great outdoors and is a keen runner, as part of a team named ‘Iron Bryan and the Daffadolis’! Having completed many races around the UK, including the Preston Guild marathon, it is now his aim to run as many foreign marathons as possible, before he has to hang up his running shoes.
Professional:The East Midlands office is headed up by Nick Stevenson who looks after a wide variety of clients. He has a strong background in medical service clients, including looking after over 100 individual GP’s and over 25 practices, over 40 hospital consultants and GP locums, and a total client list of over 300. Nick is currently the head of the MHA healthcare sector group, an association of nine independent accountancy firms across the UK, and the ICAEW SIG committee.
He has particular responsibility for liaising with NHS Employers, local LMC’s and the Health & Social Care Information Centre. Nick is also involved in the Primary Care Development Centre for Nottingham and Derbyshire where he provides support and training to local primary care providers. He regularly presents at events on an array of topics including maximising practice profitability, strategic planning and tax considerations.
Personal: Away from the office Nick enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah and three young boys Jacob, Oliver and Sebastian. He is also a long suffering Notts County supporter.
Professional: Keith joined the firm as a partner in March 2018 and is responsible for a mixed portfolio in and around the Merseyside area. He also has office responsibilities for our Southport office and will play a lead role in managing and growing the team. Keith is a specialist in accountancy, audit and tax services and has worked in the accountancy field for 26 years.
Personal: When not at the office, Keith enjoys spending his time playing golf at his local golf club. He also enjoys to spend his leisurely time with his family.
Professional: Adam joined the profession on leaving secondary school in Morecambe in 1993 working from the Lancaster office. Following the retirement of two Senior Partners Adam became primary contact for many of the firm’s clients in 2003. Adam progressed through the ranks and was appointed as a Corporate Partner in the Lancaster Office in 2014.
His background and training in accounts, personal and corporate taxation has left him well placed to support owner managed businesses on many levels. Adam’s team, under his guidance, deal with many self employed, partnership and privately owned businesses around the South Cumbria and North Lancashire area with some business clients further afield.
Adam also heads up the MHA Moore and Smalley Payroll Compliance service which has more than doubled in size since 2014.
Adam’s greatest strength is his ability to communicate well with both his clients and the local business community. His ability to understand and work closely with his clients has led to a client portfolio spanning many different sectors, although in recent years he has become particularly knowledgeable in the hospitality and caravan sector counting many bars, restaurant and park sites in his client base. Adam works with clients not only in terms of accountancy and taxation advice but also in terms of their short and long term commercial strategies.
As a local person, and very active in the business community, Adam’s enthusiasm for working with businesses in the Lancaster and surrounding area is without question.
Personal: Adam spends most of his time in the local area enjoying the benefits of working and living close to the Lake District, socialising with family and friends He also enjoys travelling outside of the UK both on sunshine holidays and city breaks. Adam is committed to the local community and is keen on taking part in charity events including in recent years a skydive for the NorthWest Air Ambulance and going “behind bars” at Lancaster Castle to raise money for CancerCare.F
Professional: Tony joined Moore and Smalley in 1996 from a big 4 firm and was appointed tax partner in 2001. He is responsible for management of the firm’s personal and corporate tax compliance as well as lead advisor on special one-off tax projects.
He heads a dedicated team of highly experienced staff on a wide range of tax planning initiatives tailored to the owner-managed business sector. Tony has a number of clients in the holiday park and property development sectors.
Personal: In his spare time Tony enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He is a lifelong supporter of Manchester United and enjoys watching them play whenever he can. At weekends he enjoys socialising with friends.
Jenny joined MHA Moore & Smalley in 2017. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years experience working in practices in the North West.
For many years she has provided a range of services, providing support and advice for owner-managed businesses, large corporates and international groups, working with them on a day to day basis. Clients have span a wide variety of sectors and have predominately been based in Lancashire and Cumbria. She is passionate about working closely with clients and building lasting relationships. Jenny is committed to helping clients achieve their business aspirations and ambitions, whilst maximising their remuneration and wealth.
Her specialisms include audit, statutory accounts, and strategic planning. She has a wide breadth of knowledge, including tax and has an innovative approach to ensure she is able to understand the needs of a business and provide solutions specific to them.
In her spare time, Jenny enjoys playing hockey and is also an active supporter of Liverpool FC. She loves to spend time with her family, especially when it involves holidays to either the slopes or a beach abroad.
Professional: Jonathan joined MHA Moore and Smalley as a VAT partner in 2018. Jonathan brings with him over thirty years of experience in VAT. Along with joining MHA Moore and Smalley as a VAT adviser, Jonathan is also an accredited mediator after qualifying in early 2016 with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution.
Personal: Jonathan has four wonderful children, a passion for the highlands of Scotland, he’s a keen walker and a Liverpool fan. His younger daughter supports Everton, just to make sure that she upsets her brother. He was born in Crosby and attended Merchant Taylors’ School for Boys.
Professional: Tracey joined Moore and Smalley in 1990 as a qualified ACA and is now in charge of the audit team in Preston’s Corporate Department. In addition to the audit of commercial organisations, she specialises in the provision of audit and accounting services to Academies, Charity and Not for Profit entities, Pension Schemes and other regulated entities.
Personal: In her spare time Tracey plays the violin and viola in several orchestras and amateur dramatic and operatic societies throughout the North West.
