Countryside Stewardship 2021: Now available for applications

This year sees the start to the progressive reduction in the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS).  The BPS payments will be halved by 2024 and reduced to zero by 2027.

BPS will be replaced by other schemes such as the Environmental Land Management scheme (ELMS). ELMS is to be piloted for the next 3 years but for now Countryside Stewardship 2021 is available for applications and here we provide information about the submission dates.

Key dates

  • 30th April – Capital grants SUBMISSION
  • 18th June – CSFO approval form request (Mid-Tier) DEADLINE
  • 30th June – Wildlife/Mid-Tier Application Pack request (online) DEADLINE
  • 30th July – Wildlife/Mid-Tier Application SUBMISSION
  • 1st October – Rolling potential START dates (Capital grants)
  • 1st January 2022 – Agreement STARTS (Wildlife, Mid-Tier)

Grants available

  • Management Options (multi-year grants for 5 years)
  • Capital Items (a range of 2 year grants for capital works, can be part of a Mid-Tier but still only have first 2 years to do capital works)

  • Now 67 capital grants to offer
  • A limit of £20,000 per capital option (total of £60,000 possible in an application)
  • A limit of £120,000 for Air and Water theme (each) in Mid-Tier applications and £50,000 for boundaries options (total of £290,000 possible in a Mid-Tier application)
