Apprenticeships – are you making the most of the opportunity

In recent years, apprenticeships have experienced a real resurgence. Figures released by the National Apprenticeship Service revealed that applications are increasing by a third, year on year, and it’s fantastic to see that apprenticeships are fast becoming the route of choice for talented individuals.

More and more small businesses, too, are experiencing first-hand how apprenticeships can grow talent, improve efficiencies and add skills to their workforce. Apprentices offer a fresh perspective, can help bridge the skills gap and often lead to a more committed workforce.

Despite this, we’ve found that there are still alarming numbers of employers who are unaware that they can access funding for apprenticeships – and they are missing out on these benefits as a result.

Many business owners do not know the cost of training is covered by the government, or that they could be eligible for an apprenticeship grant of £1,500.

Others don’t realise that the apprenticeship funding available can be used to develop and up-skill their current employees as well as new recruits.

We would urge small business owners to take advantage of these funded work-based training initiatives to both improve their workforce and help meet the growing demand for apprenticeships.
