Q&A with Jon Pinder

Q1 How long have you been working in the accountancy field?

Since 1987 when I joined Price Waterhouse in Newcastle.

Q2 What do you enjoy most about accountancy?

The broad variety, and the fact that you get to work with different businesses on a daily basis, whereas if you are a finance director you work for the same company all the time. I like working with like-minded, similar people and it doesn’t feel like a 9-5 job, you really build relationships with clients and become part of their lives.

Q3 Why Moore and Smalley?

They are the largest accountancy practice in Lancashire with an excellent reputation and client base. They have an array of fantastic personalities, and are really passionate about providing exceptional client care – an opinion that is shared by many I have spoken to.

Q4 What are you looking forward to the most about working for Moore and Smalley?

It is a new career, a fresh start, and I am feeling re-energised and ready to go. I can’t wait to help Moore and Smalley achieve their ambitious plans.

Q5 What was your first job?

My first ever job was a Newspaper round when I was 13/14 years old. It was on a Sunday morning when the newspapers used to be bursting with content (they were very heavy), so I used to drag my sister along to help me.. for not a lot of money..

Q6 If you weren’t an accountant, what would your dream job be?

As boring as it may sound, I would still like to work in accountancy. I would love to be the Financial Director of St Andrews Golf Club as I have a real passion for golf.

Q7 If any actor were to play you in a film of your life, who would it be and why?

I think it would have to be Clint Eastwood…

Q8 Favourite Sport? Hobbies?

I love watching all forms of sport, I am absolutely glued to the television watching Wimbledon at the minute, and I am a keen Middlesbrough supporter. I like to travel, my favourite place is Barbados. And I am also a big rock music fan, particularly scandanavian & deep south American rock – I go to a lot of gigs.

Q9 If you could change one thing in Britain what would it be?

Lower taxes, but if that wasn’t possible I would ban self-service supermarket checkouts!

Q10 Three Things from Bucket List?

They all involve sport…

1) Go to the Monaco Grand Prix

2) Go to Australia to watch England VS Australia in a cricket match

3) Go to the Masters to watch the golf
