Double success for MHA Moore and Smalley at the exceptional employer and apprentice awards
MHA Moore and Smalley celebrated double success at the recent Exceptional Employer and Apprentice Awards.
The annual awards celebrate the success of the college’s learners and the exceptional employers who work in partnership with the college.
The firm scooped double success on the night with Megan Bunce from our accountancy and advisory team who received a highly commended within the ‘Apprentice Awards – Above & Beyond’, with the firm itself taking the award in the ‘Employer Award – Large Employer’ category.
Megan, who has now been with the firm for four years, was a finalist in the Above & Beyond category. Of the circa. 900 apprentices enrolled onto an apprenticeship programme at Preston College, and who were eligible to be nominated for this award, the finalists were narrowed down to just three, of which Megan was one of and was highly commended on the night.
Of the award, Megan said:
“It was an incredible experience to receive highly commended amongst so many fellow apprentices.
“The firm were really supportive during my whole apprenticeship process, and my apprenticeship really helped me gain real life work experience whilst studying one day a week for my exams. This allowed me to gain vital experience of working with a variety of clients from sole traders to larger firms.
“I am really glad that I chose to complete an apprenticeship as it has helped me to build and progress in my career, whilst completing my qualification at the same time.”
Megan was nominated for the award by Nicola Roberts, MHA Moore and Smalley’s early careers lead. On her reasons for the nomination, Nicola said:
“The award is for the apprentice who goes that extra mile within their apprenticeship and with Megan it was clear that in classes she added real value to any discussion that was taking place.
“She received a distinction in her AAT programme, which only three percent of students internationally manage to achieve, so I really felt strongly that her incredible achievements needed to be recognised.”
On the night, the firm also walked away with the prestigious ‘Employer Award – Large Employer’. It had been observed that the firm have truly committed to apprenticeships for many years, with number of apprentices being recruited growing year on year.
Sam McKenna, head of school said:
“We are tremendously grateful to all of the staff at MHA Moore and Smalley for providing such an exciting training package for all of our learners and we look forward to continuing to work with them as they continue to grow in their profession.”
